The System of the Mahdi is the Only Force That can Halt ISIL

ISIL, which has been active since 2013, first assumed a prominent place on the global agenda with its simultaneous advances in Syria and Iraq in 2014. The United States of America applied its strategy of fighting terror, a strategy that has remained little changed since September 11, and initiated military operations against ISIL. The essential difference between that operation and those in Iraq and Afghanistan was that there would be no American boots on the ground. America had lost thousands of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and was unwilling to see its own people dying in the fight against ISIL; it therefore wanted "Muslims to wipe out one another" to solve the problem, as certain circles explicitly put it. That perspective, which involved major problems in respect of humanity and good conscience, was clearly never going to bring peace and stability to the region or bestow any success on America. There was one very important fact that America ignored in developing its strategy against ISIL: the truths revealed by our Prophet (pbuh) in the hadiths. If America and the coalition forces genuinely want to see peace, tranquility and democracy in the region, they must grasp the perspective of destiny set out in the hadiths of our Prophet (pbuh) and develop a parallel strategy to it.
ISIL is an organisation that our Prophet (pbuh) described in detail in the hadiths. He described both the coming of ISIL and the solution to it. The violence perpetrated by ISIL in a manner incompatible with the Qur’an will come to an end when they pledge allegiance to the Mahdi (pbuh) and abide by the Qur’an, and that will mean the end of the terror and violence in the region. To put it another way, the only power that can put an end to the violence committed by ISIL is the system of the Mahdi.
Let us now have a look at how the coming, the growth and the end of ISIL are described in the hadiths:
1. THOSE WITH BLACK BANNERS WILL APPEAR FROM THE EAST
WHEN THOSE BLACK BANNERS APPEAR IN THE (EAST) in Khorasan... (al-Ghaybah Nomani, p. 228)
This hadith refers to a community who will appear with black banners from the East. As is known, al-Qaeda appeared with large black banners.
2. AGAIN FROM THE EAST, THIS TIME A GROUP WITH SMALLER BLACK BANNERS WILL APPEAR
... Once they proceed for a while, AGAIN FROM THE EAST, THIS TIME SMALL BLACK BANNERS APPEAR... (Hadith from the Compilation of Jalal al-din al-Suyuti, The Portents of the Mahdi of the End Times, p.61, hadith no. 7.77)
ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) was once affiliated with al-Qaeda, but then they went their own separate way. Following the large black banners of al-Qaeda, this time ISIL appeared as a group with smaller black banners.
3. BEFORE THE APPEARANCE OF THOSE WITH BLACK BANNERS THERE WILL BE CONFLICTS IN SYRIA
“Following the three portents await the appearance of Imam Qaim (Mahdi).”
They asked him: “What are these portents?”
“DISAGREEMENTS BETWEEN SYRIANS, the appearance of black banners from Khorasan and fear in the month of Ramadan.” (Bihar al-Anwar, 14)
4. THOSE WITH BLACK BANNERS WILL BE IN SYRIA
…And again when A MAN WITH A SMALL BLACK BANNER is SEEN IN DAMASCUS (SYRIA)...  (Hadith from the Compilation of Jalal al-din al-Suyuti, The Portents of the Mahdi of the End Times, p.61, hadith no. 7.8)
... Another portent of the (appearance of Mahdi) is that THE SOLDIERS OF THE ARMY WITH BLACK BANNERS TIE THEIR HORSES TO THE OLIVE TREES IN DAMASCUS...  (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi `Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 23)
5. THEY WILL FIGHT AGAINST AL-ASSAD
... THEY FIGHT AGAINST A MAN FROM THE LINEAGE OF ABU SUFYAN (BASHAR ASSAD)…  (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi `Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 29)
Several other hadiths suggest that Hafez al-Assad, who wreaked the most terrible slaughters on Muslims during his time in power, was the Sufyan. Consequently the person referred to in the hadith as the man from the lineage of Abu Sufyan, against whom those with black banners would fight, is Bashar al-Assad.
6. THEY WILL HEAD FOR IRAQ AFTER SYRIA
BLACK BANNERS OF BEN AL-‘ABBAS (IRAQ) appear… (Nuaym bin Hammad, Qitab al-Fitan)
IN THEIR CITIES ON THE BANKS OF EUPHRATES, THEY (those with black banners) WILL KILL THEM [THOSE WHO OPPOSE THEM] ON LAND AND IN THE SEA. (al-Ghaybah al-Nomani, p. 327)
7. THEY WILL OBTAIN RESULTS VERY RAPIDLY
While they are in that situation, banners will come from Khorasan, THEY WILL ACT SWIFTLY. (al-Ghaybah al-Nomani, p. 327)
They will come back from there with an army and will SEIZE Kufa and Basra IN ONE NIGHT… (Qitab al-Haft al-Sharif, p.174)
8. THE CITIES THEY ENTER WILL ALMOST BE PRESENTED TO THEM
Once it is not presented to them, they will gain a victory by waging war and WHAT THEY DESIRE WILL BE PRESENTED TO THEM. (Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, v.51, p.87)
9. THEIR HAIR AND MOUSTACHES WILL BE LONG
His (the commander of those with black banners) SOLDIERS’ HAIR AND MOUSTACHES WILL BE VERY LONG, their clothes are black and THEY ARE THE MEN OF BLACK BANNERS. (al-Ghaybah al-Nomani, p. 303)
10. THEY WILL COMMIT MASS MURDERS
God will send someone hard-hearted and whose lineage is not known and he will have victories... THEY WILL MASSACRE THEM (those opposing them) WITHOUT MAKING ANY DIFFERENTIATION. (al-Ghaybah al-Nomani, p. 303)
11. THEY WILL PROCEED TOWARDS KUFA
THOSE WITH BLACK BANNERS appearing from Khorasan WILL COME DOWN TO KUFA…(Hadith from the Compilation of Jalal al-din al-Suyuti, The Portents of the Mahdi of the End Times, p.61, hadith no. 7.12)
12. BECAUSE OF AN INCREASE IN VIOLENCE AND CONFLICT, PEOPLE WILL START ASKING FOR THE MAHDI
A great war occurs. Ultimately the black banners gain victory. The forces of Sufyan run away. THEN PEOPLE WILL START TO ASK FOR THE MAHDI AND LOOK FOR HIM. (Hadith from the Compilation of Jalal al-din al-Suyuti, The Portents of the Mahdi of the End Times, p.61, hadith no. 7.26)
13. THOSE WITH BLACK BANNERS WILL EVENTUALLY ABIDE BY THE MAHDI
... and THEY WILL COME UNDER THE OBEDIENCE OF THE MAHDI. (Imam al-Suyuti)
But they will not accept it and GRANT IT TO THE MAHDI WHO is FROM MY LINEAGE…(Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, v.51, p.87)
As revealed in the hadith, ISIL will eventually pledge allegiance to Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). One of the most distinguishing features between the real Mahdi (pbuh) and the various false mahdis is that he is a student of the Qur’an, takes love as his guide and never sheds so much as even a single drop of blood. When ISIL aligns itself with the Mahdi (pbuh), it will abandon its evil ways, which are deeply rooted in superstitions, and will abide by the Qur’an, thereby putting an end to its violence.
14. AT THE TIME OF THE MAHDI, WARS WILL COME TO A COMPLETE END AND NOT A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD WILL BE SHED
One of the main attributes of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is his never shedding a single drop of blood. He who sheds blood, wages war or oppresses people is not the Mahdi. Such false mahdis are all doomed to failure.
Such is his (the Mahdi’s) vast justice that, A SLEEPING PERSON WILL NOT BE WAKENED AND NOT EVEN A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD WILL BE SHED. (Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, v.51, p.87)
THE PARTIES TO A WAR LAY DOWN THEIR BURDENS [THEIR ARMS ETC.] No enmity will remain among anyone. All enmities, conflicts and envy will absolutely come to an end. (Imam as-Sharani, Death-Doomsday-Hereafter and the Portents of the End Times, p. 496)
At the root of the current turmoil in the Islamic world lies the sad fact of the abandonment of the Qur’an and people living instead by a religion based largely on false knowledge that does not appear in the Qur’an. Indeed, the Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) only complaint about Muslims in the Qur’an is that“...they treat this Qur’an as something to be ignored” (Qur’an, 25:30).
The violence perpetrated by ISIL has no place in the Qur’an. However, many of the values it espouses do exist in some basic Islamic works. Careful examination of the basic works of Sunni Islamic culture, such as those of Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, shows that they do refer to primitive and barbaric methods of punishment such as “decapitation and stoning”, even though these are not in the Qur’an. First and foremost, it is imperative that these remarks be removed from Islamic sources and there must be a return to the essence of the faith; to the Qur’an, in other words. The whole Islamic world must be told, in great detail, that there is no violence in the Qur’an and that such interpretations are incompatible with the Qur’an. That is only possible through the system of the Mahdi. Our Prophet (pbuh) has revealed that one of the most important characteristics of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) is that he will nullify the superstitions that have been added on to Islam and lighten and ease the faith. Lightening and easing the faith means Islam being restored to its origin. This means living in complete compliance with the Qur’an. The whole world will then witness how Islam is indeed a religion of love and peace.
If we want a spirit based on love, compassion, pluralism, understanding and affection to prevail across the Islamic world, the way to bring this about is a return to the moral values of the Qur’an, which have been ignored for centuries, and the establishment of the system of the Mahdi. The Islamic world will never accept such a transition without a spiritual leader such as Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). Those who want ISIL to renounce its violence must therefore seek out Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh).
What needs to be done under these conditions is clear; first, to expose the invalidity of the information that ISIL and other groups use as supposed evidence and that appears in various Islamic sources, with evidence from the Qur’an; secondly, to search for the Mahdi (pbuh) and to communicate the system of the Mahdi. Winning over the thousands of young Europeans, Americans and others who have joined ISIL is only possible through education and by replacing misguided notions with the truth, not by killing tens of thousands of people in the Middle East and raining bombs down upon them. It goes without saying that the West can only succeed in that endeavour with the system of the Mahdi.
